Mini Me…

April 11th, 2009

So at the beginning of last week, I heard that friends of my wife and I were going to come into town (they live about 1/2 hour south of us).  I figured, both of them like to do crafty stuff.  Knit, crochet, sewing.  Why not make something fun and quick for them as a small present.

So I finally found my book, on Wednesday, and found some small finger puppets that I thought would be awesome if I could make them look like our friends.  Come to find out, I needed four-ply yarn for these little buggers.. I didn’t have any.

A trip to Michael’s didn’t turn up anything, and in my ineptitude about ply’s in yarn, I went ahead and used aran/worsted weight yarn.

Well these things turned out almost twice the size of the finger puppets, but I did get them done in two days.  Started them on Wednesday, and finished them shortly before they arrived on Friday.  One of my few FO’s that I’ve done.

I have found, that I need to learn to stitch better, because my mattress stitch really sucks big time.

It was a fun little project, that I ACTUALLY got finished.  Come to find out she had also made me something.  It’s called a nautiloid, it’s on Knitty’s 2006 issue.  It’s pretty awesome.

Here are some more pics, and their counterparts.

Wrist Warmers a GoGo

April 6th, 2009

So it’s been a couple of weeks, and with all that’s going on at the house and with the kids, I had time to finish up the base pattern of the wristers.

I have to add the thumb holes and the button strips on these suckers and it will be the next in my case of FO’s I’ve got.. Will have to be the 3rd out of 20 projects.. My track record isn’t too good right now.  But I’m trying.

Here’s an awful iPhone picture of the wristers, the base pattern.

Hopefully by the end of this week, these will be close to DONE! :)

New Project: Dr Horrible Wristers

March 25th, 2009

Hello everyone,

Last week I started a new project, the raverly project name is “Dr. Horrible Wristers“.  They are an attempt to create the fingerless gloves that penny wore during the begining of the 2nd act of Dr Horribles Sing Along Blog.

So far, I’ve gotten the left side almost all done, except for the thumb hole, the button hole strip and I need to still bind off the stitches.

I did find that during this project I was knitting actually pretty fast for this one, the stitches weren’t all that tight, I think I’m getting better at that..

I’m extremly confused with the bind off, and am looking for help on that one..

I also have attached some pictures for after I completed the last Rib row on the piece.

For me.. I lost all my straight needles.. So  I’ve been in the search for some new ones, and found these nice 10″ straight wood sets from KnitPicks.  They look like a good deal, still looking around.. if anyone knows of more sets, let me know!! :)

Welcome Back…

March 18th, 2009

Hello everyone..

I figure, now that our house is mostly done and we have pretty much recovered from the flood, that I would try to get back into my knitting hobby.

The only problem I’m having is finding all my kneedles.. Many of them were under water.. I lost ALOT.. I have I think one or two of my interchangeable, but none of my straights, which means I need to buy lots more.

All my old needles were aluminium, but I’m planning on replacing them all with bamboo.. I really liek the bamboos and I think they will work with me better.

My first project back (I have a coupel actually) will most likely be this pattern from over at Ravelry for my daughter.. And I’m also thinking of the Jayne Cobb hat, cause it’s neat.

I’m also trying to get back into my life over at Knitting Help and some other forums.. We’ll see how that goes..

Hope to see you all on the other side of the needles.
